The Perfect Treat For The Kids Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

We can all agree that one of the best treats in the winter is a freshly-baked cookie. When it’s miserable and cold outside, there’s nothing better than a warm chocolate chip cookie that practically melts in your mouth. However, this cookie is the best chocolate chip cookie of all! Why? Because it’s chewy and delicious – not crunchy and overdone. If you have a snow day and want to stay inside where it’s warm, you can entertain the kids by having them help you make the cookies! This way, they’ll feel like they’re part of the process and do something fun as well. Believe it or not, the recipe is fairly simple and easy to make. The trick is following the instructions meticulously seeing as baking is much more exact than cooking is.

What You’ll Need

For a recipe that makes 12 cookies, you’ll need:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar (165 g), packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (115 g), melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (155 g)
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 oz milk or semi-sweet chocolate chunks (110 g)
  • 4 oz dark chocolate chunk (110 g), or your preference

Instructions

  1. In a big bowl, combine the sugars, salt, and butter until it forms a paste with no lumps.
  2. While whisking, add the egg and vanilla. Keep whisking until light ribbons fall off the whisk and stay for a short while before falling back in the mix.
  3. Sift in the flour and baking soda. Fold the mixture with a spatula – careful not to overmix! Doing so can result in cakier cookies.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chunks.
  5. Chill the dough for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the over to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Use an ice-cream scoop to make even cookies, placing them on the sheet, leaving at least 4″ (10 cm) of space between the cookies and 2″ (5 cm) of space from the edges of the pan since the cookies spread.
  8. Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges begin turning slightly brown.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on a rack before serving.

And there you have it! Don’t forget to eat them with a glass of milk!
