While they sound fun in theory, snow days can be somewhat boring and frustrating at times. The kids are home, the adults are home, and it can get crowded inside with nothing to do. The good news is, there is plenty to do! Instead of having the kids get more and more bored throughout the day and make them act up, you can do all kinds of fun things together and make the best of the day in! So, here are some fun things to do together as a family when you find yourself home on a snow day.
Make Snow Cones
If you want to bring the wintery fun inside, get the kids to collect fresh balls of snow and bring them inside to the kitchen. Once there, put them in bowls, drizzle the snow with some lemon juice and a pinch of sugar. If you want something extra, you can drizzle some food coloring on them as well!
Hot Chocolate On A Stick
This delicious treat will entertain the kids as well during the prep! You just need some marshmallows, chocolate chips, and any other toppings you’d like. Get lollipop sticks or skewers and have the kids thread on marshmallows – two or three per stick. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave and then use a spoon to spread some on the marshmallows. Make sure there’s enough on each one! Once that’s done, place them all on a baking sheet or pan and put them in the fridge to set. After that, just heat up some milk in a mug and stir in the sticks for delicious hot chocolate!
Build A Snowman
Of course, when it’s snowing, there are classic things you can do. From building a full-blown snowman to making snow angels or even having a snowball fight with the entire family!
Bake Cookies
If you’re looking for more things to do inside and you don’t want to just sit in front of the TV, you can get baking! Whether it’s baking yummy cookies or anything else, getting the kids involved will be educational and fun for them. If you want something rather simple to start with, go for brownies or chocolate chip cookies.
Indoor Obstacle Course
To take your snow day adventure to the next level, you can go all out and prepare an entire indoor obstacle course for the kids. You can make use of all kinds of different items around the house for this – get creative!
Snow Painting
Take your creativity outside with the kids! Use some water mixed with food coloring and paint in the snow. Just grab a few plastic bottles and fill them with different colors and there you go!
